Fiscale was established in February 2014 by John Mayhew and Stephen Bunting. The company specialises in R & D Tax Credit consultancy and has already secured over £1.7 million of tax credit relief for their clients. Fiscale has grown rapidly over the last eighteen months and now employ a team of six.

From the outset John and Stephen were keen to expand and set an ambitious growth strategy for their first year of trading. As a Director of the Castle Partnership Academy Trust and a Director of ONE Haverhill John was very aware of the Apprenticeship Scheme. He recognised the real benefits that apprenticeships offer both employers and young people and as such hiring an apprentice featured in Fiscale's development plans.

It was felt that an apprentice would bring a fresh perspective and alleviate some of the administrative pressure involved in running a small business. The benefits for the apprentice were the opportunity to learn while they earn and to become more employable because of the real life work experience they were gaining. John was determined to support the Apprenticeship Scheme by appointing an apprentice to provide administrative support as soon as was practicable.

John comments, "We were delighted to win the Apprentice Employer of the Year Award. We would like to thank 1st Stop Recruitment for sponsoring the award. Fiscale is 100% committed to helping young people achieve their full potential in life, whatever career path they may choose to follow. Not everyone has the opportunity or desire to attend university.

The Apprenticeship Scheme opens up more routes to success for young people. Following our positive experience with Madeline we recruited another apprentice in March this year - Kevin Wang. We respect our apprentices and value the contribution they make to the company. They have added tremendous value to Fiscale and are rightly rewarded and acknowledged for their efforts."

Madeline joined John and Stephen in August 2014, as an Apprentice, and started her BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business and Administration in October 2014. Madeline soon became a trusted, reliable member of the small team and proved she had the drive and determination to carve a successful career for herself at Fiscale.

Madeline was brought up and educated in France. Her first job, after graduating from Lycée Alexis Montel, was in administration support in Europe's most prestigious cardio-thoracic hospital. When Madeline met John and Stephen they recognised her potential and offered her an apprenticeship.

As the team expanded Madeline was promoted to Senior Claims Administrator. Her current role involves supervising the preparation of client reports and the management of the R & D Tax Credit claims being processed by Fiscale. Madeline attends client meetings and is the primary liaison for a number of clients. With aspirations to become a qualified accountant Madeline has already taken a number of professional exams to take her closer to her goal.

On winning the closely contested title of Apprentice of the Year Madeline said, "I was very proud to be nominated for the award by Fiscale. I had no idea that I was going to win. I love my work at Fiscale and love being part of a really close knit and caring team. I have been given a fantastic opportunity and I intend to grasp it with both hands and achieve as much as I possibly can!"

Madeline was presented with a trophy and an iPad Mini by Jim Moretta, Site Head of Sanofi in Haverhill, who sponsored the award. The judges were impressed by Madeline's "drive and willingness to go the extra mile" and her approach to improving her skills and experience.
